Transportation as A Service (TAAS)

Campaign: How can we make emissions reduction profitable?

Many times, I wonder if what I need is a vehicle in the garage ready to move me to my various destinations for my needs and wants or services for the same purposes. Let us imagine having a service that I could call at any time, at less than 1% of what the likes of Uber charge to move me to locations such as office, mall, and other areas. Such an offer should be able to combine the characteristics of mass transportation and personalized services, especially in places with low mass transportation services. Wahoo, such services will save me lots of money annually that would have gone into vehicle licensing, insurance, fueling, maintenance, purchase/loan repayments, etc. At the other end, the number of vehicles on the roads will be reduced (hopefully they will all become electrically powered), thereby drastically reducing the carbon footprints. Such “Transportation as A Service (TAAS),” will also benefit the vehicle manufacturers through lease services and continuous patronage that will bring continuous cash flow.

I think this is a terrific idea. The notion of ordering transportation as a service would save you money as a vehicle operator, but I wonder how much it would reduce the cost of producing a car? BY this, I wonder how much of a vehicle's manufacturing cost is consumed in styling, image making and marketing? If efficiency was the only competitive component for manufacturers, perhaps this would also move costs to the end user closer that 1% of uber costs goal that you suggested.
